Windows blinds have their history way back in the 18th century, where window blinds were used as a substitute for shutters and ancient Egyptian pharaohs had blinds made of reeds. We all live in homes where there is at least one window. Windows help in letting in sunlight and air whenever we open them and don’t whenever we close them.
We peep outside the windows to see what’s going on if we have a good view. But there are some times when we don’t want light for whatever reason. Also when it rains very heavily we shut our windows. There are also some times when we don’t want anyone looking at us in our homes. This is where window blinds come to our rescue. Window blinds as the name suggest it simply means “a blind for privacy or to keep out the unwanted light” or “hide from sight”. In other words window blinds covers the window, which is usually attached to the interior part of the window. In Britain awnings are also considered as blinds. Slat blinds, which can be open in two ways and solid blinds are the two main types of blinds. Solids blinds can only be raised or lowered and are sometimes also referred to as shades.
Window blinds also help to keep our homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Window blinds helps us to control the amount of light and air to let in to our rooms. Window blinds unlike curtains or shades are fairly easy to maintain and clean. Window blinds lasts longer than shades or curtains. Ultra violet rays also known as UV rays which are very harmful, window blinds protects your furniture from these UV rays. Window blinds can be drawn manually using a cord, or automated through motorization. Automated window blinds are useful if you have a small child or animal, as they can strangle themselves in cord.
